چکیده

Pairing of the X and Y chromosomes during meiotic prophase and the Gand C-banding patterns were analysed in Microtus sikimensis. The karyotype of M. sikimensis from central Nepal, has 2n = 48 and FNa = 56. It has been derived from the all single-armed karyotype of M. carruthersi through a unique course of evolution. There is a synapsis between the X and Y chromosomes at pachytene and end-to-end association from diakinesis to metaphase I. Microtus sikimensis has no close karyological or morphological relationship to the other synaptic species studied so far. These data con®rm that several species or lineages with synaptic condition exist in the genus Microtus, and that the ancestor of Microtus had synaptic sex

Presence of the 54-chromosome common vole (Mammalia) on Olkhon Island (Lake Baikal, East Siberia, Russia), and the occurrence of an unusual X-chromosome variant

We report a new finding of the 54-chromosome sibling species of the common vole in East Siberia - the first description from Olkhon Island (Lake Baikal). The karyotype of a male specimen revealed by routine staining and C-banding demonstrates the unambiguous presence of Microtus rossiaemeridionalis Ognev, 1924 (recently often regarded as as junior synonym of Microtus levis Miller, 1908). Compar...

Genomes of Ellobius species provide insight into the evolutionary dynamics of mammalian sex chromosomes.

The X and Y sex chromosomes of placental mammals show hallmarks of a tumultuous evolutionary past. The X Chromosome has a rich and conserved gene content, while the Y Chromosome has lost most of its genes. In the Transcaucasian mole vole Ellobius lutescens, the Y Chromosome including Sry has been lost, and both females and males have a 17,X diploid karyotype. Similarly, the closely related Ello...

Mapping the SRY gene in Microtus cabrerae: a vole species with multiple SRY copies in males and females.

The SRY gene is a single-copy, male-specific gene, located on the Y chromosome in most mammals. However, recently we have described the presence of multiple polymorphic copies of this gene in both males and females of the vole species Microtus cabrerae. Here, we present the chromosomal localization of SRY gene copies in this species by fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH). This technique lo...

Rapid Karyotype Evolution in Lasiopodomys Involved at Least Two Autosome – Sex Chromosome Translocations

The generic status of Lasiopodomys and its division into subgenera Lasiopodomys (L. mandarinus, L. brandtii) and Stenocranius (L. gregalis, L. raddei) are not generally accepted because of contradictions between the morphological and molecular data. To obtain cytogenetic evidence for the Lasiopodomys genus and its subgenera and to test the autosome to sex chromosome translocation hypothesis of ...

Karyotype analysis and new chromosome number reports for nine Vicia species in Iran

This study concerns diploid chromosome numbers and karyotype analysis of nine species belonging to four sections (Vicilla, Cracca, Variegata and Anatropostylia) of the subgenus Vicilla of the genus Vicia (Fabaceae). The chromosome numbers of Vicia alpestris subsp. hypoleuca, V. aucheri, V. ciceroideae, V. gariensis, V. iranica, V. koeieana, V. rechingeri, V. sojakii and V. venulosa are reported...
